McFadyens Contractors carried out this project as Principal Contractor to Forestry Commission Scotland and despite a series of disruptions due to weather, the bridge was completed well within programme.
The project involved the construction of a 44T baily bridge with 60m3 abutments and a 36.6m clear span. This specialist style of bridge construction using incremental launching of panels by the cantilever method is just one example of designs that we complete for our customers. The construction process involved the removal of the old baily bridge and abutments and replacing the 10-bay bridge with a 12-bay compact 200. With access only available to the far side via a 30-minute forestry road, careful planning was carried out in terms of plant movement. The range of excavators & also 45T crane in house from McFadyens allowed each aspect of the works to be met with the appropriate plant.
The task of ensuring site safety was vital to the success of this project, with the construction phase falling in a period of very high snowfall & cold temperatures. Close supervision was provided, as always, by the professional service team at McFadyen’s. The project was successfully carried out to schedule and with zero Health & Safety or Environmental incident.
